  • In 2011, Founders Ama and Zana asked themselves a question:

How can we give children and families greater access to the outside for learning, exploration, and discovery?

Drawing on their love of the outdoors and own challenges around school, Grow to School CIC was formed; a social enterprise providing meaningful outdoor learning, food growing and nature engagement experiences for children in early years and primary education.

In 2025 we have grown and now have a team of experienced practitioners, including trained teachers, delivering regular nature engagement, food growing and outdoor learning sessions in over 45 primary schools and community settings in West Yorkshire and beyond.

So, the time has come to expand our Board of Directors and we’re looking for Non-Executive Directors to help steer the organisation as it continues to grow. This is a new endeavour for us and we want to cast our net wide. We’re seeking people who have achieved leadership status in the areas of Business Development, Education, Fundraising, Marketing/PR and Human Resources. We’re also keen to hear from parents, students, young people, teaching staff and community growers who may not have leadership experience but are passionate about engaging children with nature and getting them outside more!

Service on Grow to School CIC’s board is a voluntary role. You would be required to attend four Board Meetings per year preferably face to face but with provision for remote attendance. Previous board experience is not essential, and we do not foresee the expected commitment to exceed 40 hours per year.

We’re a small friendly bunch, passionate about making a difference and we promise to make it a rewarding, supportive and fun experience for all involved.

As we see the effects of climate change on the planet, it feels critical that the next generation are given the tools to care and act. All children need to access the mental health benefits that spending more time outside brings. If you have the spare time to help us make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

At Grow to School, we embrace diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and ethnicities to truly reflect the geographical areas in which we work.
