Swtan Heritage Centre (pronounced Su-tan) is a fully restored example of a 17th century Welsh cottage with a thatched roof. It is situated on the beautiful north west coast of Anglesey, in the picturesque village of Church Bay (Porth Swtan). As well as the Cottage, there is a well-stocked vegetable plot and a herb garden showcasing the traditional use of herbs for culinary and medicinal purposes.
Bryngarw House and Park – Whether you’re looking to join the cycle track for a ride alongside the River Garw; take part in a bushcraft activity with the Rangers; shoot down one of the slides in the children’s play area or simply take a stroll through the wildflower meadow – Bryngarw Country Park truly does have something for everyone.
Market Hall Cinema is Wales’ oldest cinema and the only remaining cinema in Blaenau Gwent. In 2013 it was taken over by the local community with a simple business proposition – to sell ‘seats and sweets’. It invests its profit into upgrading the building and community activities such as dance classes, painting courses, music workshops and film making courses.
Located in the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park area of South Wales, the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals, especially chimpanzees, baboons and other primates. It undertakes rescues from zoos and laboratories where animals have suffered mistreatment and deprivation or are no longer wanted. Visitors are welcome to see the animals and find out more about the work of the sanctuary.
Pedal Power is a social enterprise that hires and sells bikes suitable for different ages and abilities, including a large number specially adapted for people with disabilities. You can hire bikes by the hour or for a day, and Pedal Power has locations in Cardiff Bay and Pontcanna. At the end of your journey, you can recover at Café Tanglewood, a vegetarian café managed by Pedal Power.

Greenmeadow Community Farm has been a working farm for over 250 years and in the late 1980s was saved by a group of local people who wanted to stop the farm being turned into a development site. Set in over 120 acres, it has a wide range of pedigree and rare breed animals which you can come and meet up close. Daily activities include milking demonstrations and tractor and trailer rides.
Housed in the Old Sail Loft at Milford Docks on the Haven Waterway in Pembrokeshire, is the Waterfront Gallery, one of south west Wales leading art galleries. Showing fine art paintings, drawings and print work alongside sculptures, ceramics, textiles, photography and jewellery, the unique 3,000 sq foot gallery space showcases the work of some 50 local artists and craft workers.
Cletwr is a community-run shop, cafe and community hub in Tre’r-ddol, Ceredigion. As well as a busy programme of events for all ages and interests, it has a fantastic café serving superb coffee, a range of excellent home-made cakes, as well as soup, sandwiches, breakfasts (meaty and veggie) and other light snacks – using local produce where possible.
Cyfarthfa Castle is located in the historical town of Merthyr Tydfil, which established itself as the Iron Capital of the World in the 18th Century with its huge Iron-Works complexes. Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and Cafe is a popular family attraction that is positioned on top of the Cefn flight, an engineering wonder of the industrial revolution that is located in the picturesque area of Newport. A family friendly location managed by the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust (MBACT), with an abundance of history, activity trails, family events and education days running throughout the year. The canal towpath is part of the national cycle route 47 and the beautiful Sirhowy valley walk.
Take a trip to the seaside and visit Penarth Pier Pavilion, a fully restored art deco pier pavilion on the South Wales coast. The Pavilion is a multi-functional building housing a gallery, cinema, cafe and restaurant. It offers an exciting exhibitions programme, films ranging from new releases to classics, a full events schedule including live music, and locally sourced food and drinks that can be enjoyed with a sea view.
The Muni Arts Centre was saved from closure by a consortium of private, public and charitable organisations and reopened in September of 2015. Since then we have grown and been recognised as a hub for events and groups within Pontypridd and the wider south Wales area. The range of facilities and services we’re able to offer include venue hire, business meetings and veteran support.
Take a break from heritage sites and take the kids along to the Yard in Treorchy, an exciting new initiative based in the old Burberry Factory. Run by Valleys Kids to offer new opportunities whatever the weather, the centre has a large children’s indoor play space, indoor sports on two state of the art 5 a-side pitches, a fitness studio and Coffi Red café, all under one roof with ample parking.
