Ellen is founder and managing director of Greenstream Flooring CIC. Having spent over ten years previously working within waste strategy comms and community-based sustainable waste management, she set-up Greenstream Flooring CIC in 2008 based on the vision that an otherwise ‘discarded’ material (commercial carpet tile) could create jobs and opportunities via the creation and development of new secondary -life markets.
The organisation has grown from being an initial vision to being a multi-award-winning social enterprise that employs nine staff across two warehouses in Rhondda Cynon Taff in South Wales and supports hundreds of volunteers and placements in the ‘sort, separating , regrading and reselling operations.
From its site in the town of Porth, Greenstream supplies and fits all flooring through its Circular Office Flooring Supply & Fit service, while on a national basis, the organisation supplies the carpet industry with a zero-waste recovery service of commercial carpet tiles. The organisation’s social programmes include a large community donation scheme and an Affordable Flooring Programme in which free carpet is provided to social housing tenants in-need via their local housing association.
Ellen now has over twenty years’ experience of resource recovery and the circular economy, ten of which has been spent on setting up and developing a ‘disruptor/ circular ’ business that aims to maximise the community benefit of a material traditionally not valued as a resource worth saving.
