Job description

Want to make a real difference? You couldn’t be in better company. An exciting opportunity for an experienced dentist and specialist in special care to join Smile Together Dental CIC, as Service Lead within our West Country Dental Care team, to support our continuing business growth and development.

Reporting to our Clinical Director, this position will suit someone who has strong leadership and team-working attributes who is enthusiastic, visionary and self-motivated, with the presence and credibility to generate commitment and support from other team members and external partners.

Responsibilities will include leading the Special Care and Community Team comprising dentists, therapists and nurses and provide comprehensive Special Care dentistry to vulnerable children and adults who are unable to access general dental practice due to complex physical, medical, mental, behavioural, social, emotional, intellectual, sensory impairment or disability.

It’s never been a more exciting time to join us – we’re having a major impact in the County and we’re different! Covering Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Smile Together is one of the South West’s largest NHS referral and emergency primary dental care providers. Our West Country Dental Care team provides urgent dental treatments for people who don’t have their own dentist, run out-of-hours surgeries and apply expert skills to treat children and adults with a range of special care needs alongside oral surgery, children’s orthodontics and treatments under general anaesthetic in a hospital setting.

Under our Brighter Dental brand we provide competitively priced private dentistry from practices based in the heart of their communities, and we own a specialist dental laboratory DPS (Dental Prosthetic Solutions). An award-winning and innovative organisation, we function as an employee-owned community interest company and social enterprise with clear rules about reinvesting our profits back into the community.

Our Brighter Smiles campaign brings practical tooth-brushing clubs, fluoride varnishing and oral health education to children in areas of high decay across Cornish communities, and we reach further into our communities with outreach activities such as Smiles At Sea. When we launched in 2016 as an employee-owned dental social enterprise and community interest company, one of the things our team felt passionately about was enhancing our clinical environments and treatment options for patients – to improve our community dental services, exceed patient expectations and enable everyone to deliver above and beyond what we’re commissioned, contracted and inspired to do.

Underpinning our mission of delivering ‘dentistry with social impact’. We therefore purchased a wonderful old building in Bodmin and are currently transforming it into a brand new, purpose-built dental centre in the heart of our community. Our shared vision for the building is to enhance dental services and quality of provision, delivering an outstanding patient experience. Ultimately it will be a development for us all to be proud of – in line with our vision of creating happier healthier communities, it will transform dentistry in Cornwall.
