Commenting on the Queen’s speech Peter Holbrook, CEO of Social Enterprise UK said:

“The Conservative Government missed an opportunity in a Brexit focused Queen’s Speech by not announcing a stronger Social Value Act. With the UK leaving the European Union there is an opportunity for the Act to be enhanced and used more widely, helping drive local economic growth and build a fairer and more plural economy. A commitment to strengthen the Act was in the Liberal Democrat manifesto and would have received their support.  Nevertheless, we maintain that there is an opportunity and indeed an imperative for the Government to commission an independent review of the Act which should draw on experience and support from the private, public and social sectors.”
