Green is the New Black in this innovative collaboration between Elvis & Kresse and LIVARI clothing. Alysia Reiner’s (Orange is the New Black, The Deuce) zero waste fashion label LIVARI illustrates how fashion can be a force for good. In an industry where leading fashion houses take to burning unsold stock, this latest collaboration comes as an instant breath of fresh air.

Elvis & Kresse are a pioneering and award-winning sustainable luxury brand based in England. Most famously known for their handmade luxury items made from decommissioned fire-hose and recently making waves in the news over their 5-year partnership with The Burberry Foundation. Although this partnership was officially announced already late last year, it was only brought to light after Burberry announced in September that it will stop the practice of burning unsold goods. This 5-year partnership will seek to save a further 120 tons of leather waste from incineration.

LIVARI is a collaborative expression of art and activism by Alysia Reiner, Claudine DeSola (Caravan Stylist Studio) & Tabitha St. Bernard-Jacobs (Tabii Just, Women's March). Using the art of fashion as a medium of activism and hope, LIVARI is a space where the voices of women are celebrated and uplifted.

It was the shared values and ambitions between LIVARI and Elvis & Kresse that made this collaboration a true meeting of hearts and minds.

The handmade-to-order piece celebrates a unique combination of rescued materials. Black leather off-cuts from the production of Burberry leather goods and reclaimed printing blankets are combined to create a stunning black-on-black exterior with a fun hot-orange lining made from failed parachute silk panels.

Alysia Reiner selected the colours, material combination and designed the black-on-black pattern of the clutch. 50% of the profits from each Limited Edition Clutch will be donated to Barefoot College, supporting the education of female solar engineers and the renewable electrification of their communities.

LIVARI’s motto “JOY is an act of RESISTANCE” is delicately etched into one of the leather pieces, handwoven into the clutch. A message any woman will want to carry proudly, from day to night.

Not only does this edgy yet ethical luxury collaboration demonstrate the beauty that can found from materials otherwise going to landfill, but also acts as a shining beacon of what the fashion industry should strive for. The future of luxury is sustainable, where green is most definitely the new black.

Alysia Reiner on her collaboration: “We are so excited to be collaborating with Elvis & Kresse on the LIVARI clutch. E&K deeply espouses LIVARI’s commitment to environmental fashion activism and our clutch is a perfect example of both reusing/repurposing materials and giving 50% to a non-profit empowering woman. I interwove two different textures of black leather to create a unique depth for the exterior, a clutch that would transcend any seasons or trends. A versatile, timeless accessory that would go with everything, but would still have a fresh look and unique style. May the woven pattern also be a metaphor for the interconnectedness of all women supporting each other in the daily fabric of our lives.”

The Limited Edition Elvis & Kresse x LIVARI clutch made its debut during New York Fashion Week at the Tome New York Show. It can be exclusively purchased through the Elvis & Kresse e-boutique with a waiting list of approximately 3 weeks already in place.

“I believe Elvis & Kresse craft some of the most beautiful bags in the world with so much attention to detail. Beyond that I love their story, their ethics, and their community. We are ecstatic to have been introduced to Barefoot College through our work with them.”Claudine DeSola, celebrity stylist and Co-founder of LIVARI

“At LIVARI, we always aim to reduce waste in the work we do. Elvis & Kresse and Burberry

Elvis & Kresse was launched to solve the problem of London’s decommissioned fire hose. When the hose was too damaged to repair, it was simply going to landfill. Since 2005 they have been collecting all of London’s hoses, transforming them into high quality, hand-crafted lifestyle accessories. They donate 50% of the profits from this collection to the Fire Fighters Charity.

Elvis & Kresse have also turned their attention to tackling the waste created in the production of leather goods and will expand this work with a grant from the Burberry Foundation.

Elvis & Kresse are a certified Benefit Corporation (B Corp).

The Burberry Foundation

The Burberry Foundation was set up in 2008 by Burberry Group plc as an independent charity (UK registered charity number 1154468) for general charitable purposes and grant-making. The Foundation Board comprises two Burberry representatives as well as an independent trustee. The Board meets four times a year and is responsible for upholding the Foundation’s vision and ensuring delivery of its charitable purpose.

The Foundation is dedicated to using the power of creativity to drive positive change in our communities, and build a sustainable future through innovation. The Foundation is taking a long-term approach focusing its grant-making on reducing waste, promoting the STEAM agenda (integrating art into the traditional science, technology, engineering, and maths agenda), tackling educational inequality and supporting social and economic development.

About Burberry Group’s Responsibility Agenda

Burberry’s Responsibility agenda is designed to drive positive change and build a more sustainable future through innovation. Our new five-year programme “Creating Tomorrow’s Heritage” focuses on three ambitious goals:

Support 1 million people in the communities that sustain Burberry’s business and the wider luxury industry

Ensure 100% of Burberry’s products have at least one element that drives positive change

Invent new approaches to revaluing waste created in the production of luxury goods, whilst becoming carbon neutral in its own operations.
