Clare Talbot-Jones, co-Founder and Director of chartered insurance brokerage Talbot Jones Ltd has won the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) flagship Public Trust in Insurance award.

Talbot Jones Ltd, a Gateshead based commercial insurance brokerage specialising in Third Sector and Professional risks, announced today that Clare was named winner of the Building Public Trust in Insurance Award at the CII’s virtual ceremony. It recognises the work of Clare and her team in providing the highest levels of customer service, added value and investment in professional skills and knowledge development.

“As a newcomer to the industry and the Director of a young micro-business, this award from our professional body bears testament to their recognition that you don’t need a big budget or long-established traditions to make a positive impact”, says Clare. “As a business that focusses on Community, Excellence and Integrity, to receive this national award is a massive honour, really encouraging us that our approach is valued, appreciated and recognised.”

The awards reflect the CII’s purpose to build public trust and recognise work in the public arena by key individuals and companies going the extra mile to promote professionalism and to promote public trust. Previous award winners include Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis. The award, presented to an insurance professional who has taken action to increase trust in the insurance profession, was awarded to Clare following her tireless work in varied volunteer roles around supporting women, diversity and inclusion, youth opportunities, business and the wider community. She also presented a Newcastle University TEDx on Pursuing Fearlessness this year as well as completing a PGCert in Insurance and Risk Management and embarking on a Senior Level Apprenticeship in Strategic Leadership MSc at Northumbria University. This recognition follows Clare’s award in 2019 of the Rising Star in Insurance awards by Insurance Business UK and inclusion on their Elite Women in Insurance list this year. In October, Clare was finalist in the Incisive Media Role Model in Insurance awards.

Clare makes a positive impact on the community in a variety of ways, supporting women to financial freedom through Newcastle-based The Millin Charity, mentoring through Northern Power Futures, careers guidance through Founders4Schools and supporting a local charity chair to access their role as a visual impairment support worker, among other roles. She recently took up the role of Centre Manager at the newly launched Christians Against Poverty Life Skills Centre based at Holy Trinity Gateshead.

“We’re so proud of Clare” says Talbot Jones Ltd Managing Director, Richard. “After suffering mental ill health she left her career in teaching and has thrown her all into her new role since launching the business 5 years ago. She is a huge inspiration and really stands out in the industry. We are delighted that her integrity and efforts to support our communities has been recognised at a national level.” Talbot Jones Ltd is one of only three chartered insurance brokerages headquartered in the NE. Having launched in 2016, the team of 6 is looking to recruit a Marketing Assistant through the Kickstart scheme and an Account Handler, perhaps through an apprenticeship programme. The dynamic and innovative team have worked diligently over the past year, supporting clients and advocating for over £1 million of Covid-related Business Interruption claims while completing several professional qualifications.
