Social enterprises - businesses investing their profits for good

There are almost certainly social enterprises in your borough that are transforming lives and strengthening the local community. Social Saturday is an opportunity to shine a light on these alternative businesses.

Social enterprises use the power of business to tackle local social and environmental problems: They create training and employment opportunities for people furthest from the labour market; they provide public services, from health and social care to transport; and they help to protect the environment, reducing landfill and carbon emissions.

How to get involved

What you do is up to you, and no doubt need to be based on your local priorities. Ideas could include:

  • Organising visits to local social enterprises for MPs and Councillors
  • Put on event bringing together social enterprises in your area. This could be a social enterprise marketplace or a networking event bringing together social enterprises with other key stakeholders in the area
  • Raising awareness of the Social Saturday through your Council’s communications channels
