Who We Work With Public Sector Health and Social Care SEUK has a long track record in healthcare; from the establishment of a Social Enterprise Unit in the Department of Health, to the adoption of the Right to Request policy in the NHS. We've also published several dedicated guides to social enterprise in healthcare. Over a third of our members work in the health and social care sector, we are experts in social value as well as at developing cross-sector partnerships to deliver on local health and care challenges. SEUK works in a number of ways to support and grow the role that social enterprises play in delivering quality health and social care services these include: The Health and Social Care Network Consultancy Programmes Health and Social Care Conference Policy Research The Health and Social Care Network Social Enterprise UK coordinates the spin-out network - a regular meeting for its members that have spun out of the NHS or a local authority. The network of around 40 spin-outs meets quarterly and provides a supportive environment for peers to discuss key challenges and share their learning around commissioning, governance, recruitment, finance issues and more. SEUK provides the secretariat for the group and delivers an annual work plan agreed by the network which includes: Bespoke training Lobbying on behalf of the network Undertaking research for the network Promoting the work of spin-outs Who are our members? Organisations that have emerged from Primary Care Trusts and other parts of an evolving public sector, and established as independent social enterprises. They deliver community health, mental health, public health and social care services worth almost a billion pounds per year, often with significant multi-year contracts. Some identify themselves as mutuals, some as employee-owned businesses, and some have developed models of service user or community ownership. Some emerged very recently, while others have now been trading for a number of years. The Health and Social Value Programme The Health and Social Value programme worked with 12 local areas, supporting Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), local authorities and the VCSE to embed social value in their procurement and commissioning of health care. The 12 Steps to Embedding Social Value Priorities As part of the learning from the Health and Social Value Programme we put together this practical twelve step guide for commissioners to help embed social value principles into health and care commissioning. SEUK's Health and Social Care Conference Our annual Health and Social Care Conference (previously called Fit For the Future) is designed and delivered specifically for social enterprises and the wider voluntary and community sector working in health and social care. Previous conferences have included speakers from NHS England, the Kings Fund, the Health Foundation and West Midlands Mental Health Commission. Policy We represent social enterprises at the Provider Voice Forum (with senior Department of Health civil servants) SEUK is an expert partner on the Social Value in Health steering board, chaired by Sir Michael Marmot SEUK represented social enterprise views as part of the VCSE Review Investing in Partnerships for Health and Wellbeing. Our recommendations on social value were included in the final report. Research Healthy Commissioning: How the Social Value Act is being used by Clinical Commissioning Groups This report puts a lens to Clinical Commissioning Groups to see whether, and how, they are applying the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012. Key findings in the report show that 43% of respondents had no policy on the Social Value Act; only 25 CCGs (13%) demonstrated 'highly committed, evidenced and active' use of the Act; weighting procurement for social value, even amongst the most highly committed CCGs, is limited and low; and analysis of Sustainability and Transformation Plans found that just 13% mention Social Value.
