Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is already having an impact on businesses across the country and social enterprises are no exception. We know these next few months are going to be ones of uncertainty and fear and we want to let you know that we are here to support you in whatever way we can.

We certainly do not have all the answers and we are entering unchartered territory for everyone, but we will ensure that we are doing all we can to be there for the social enterprise community. We’re here to offer and signpost towards practical support and also ensure that your voice is not ignored by Government.

This page will be updated as often as possible with the latest news and resources to help us collectively get through the coming days. We will be organising webinars with sector leaders sharing their own thoughts on issues from HR to finance and will be looking at other ways to enable our community to support each other. 3 APRIL : BRIEFING – SUPPORT FOR SOCIAL ENTERPRISES – Recently updated guide to the support and resources out there which will help the social enterprise community at this time from accessing loans through the COVID-19 Business Interruption Loan Scheme to business rates relief. Now contains information on the Job Retention Scheme, three month VAT deferrals and the news that contracts in public sector should be guaranteed till 30th June 2020

7 APRIL WEBINAR – THE COVID JOB RETENTION SCHEME & WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:  Paul Seath from the Employment Team at law firm, Bates Wells will delivered a webinar on the latest updates on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. It looked in depth at what employers can claim, what the new guidance means for social enterprises receiving public funds and how the concept of furlough leave works in practice.

1 APRIL WEBINAR: ADAPTING YOUR BUSINESS MODEL – Colin Downie, Sales and Partnership Director at leading social enterprise, WildHearts, delivered a webinar on adapting your business model to best deal with crisis which touched on making the most of furlough and looking at potential new markets at this challenging time.

31 MARCH WEBINAR: MENTAL HEALTH AND WORKING FROM HOME – Simon Blake, Chief Executive at Mental Health First Aid England hosted a webinar on mental health support at this time and adjusting to the realities of homeworking.

These are all free to sign-up too and the recordings will be available on this site. Each webinar is an hour long with plenty time to ask questions. We currently have planned webinars looking at issues around furlough leave and digital working which will be advertised on this page. You can listen to previous webinars covering issues ranging from financial support for social enterprises during coronavirus to business continuity planning here.  

THURSDAY 9 APRIL 12PM – DIGITAL TOOLS AND WORKING FROM HOME: Digital agency and social enterprise, Reason Digital will be hosting a webinar looking into the best ways to work remotely, the best platforms to use and how to keep productive. 

Legal Support

Bates Wells Social Enterprise Legal Advice LineBates Wells operates a free legal advice helpline to Social Enterprise UK members giving 20 minutes free advice which is being extended to all social enterprises whilst this crisis continues. To access the helpline, just complete this online form at the link below and the Bates Wells team will respond asap to arrange a free 20-minute call.

Hempsons Social Enterprise Legal Advice Line – Hempsons operates a free legal advice helpline for Social Enterprise UK members. The helpline is open between 10.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, and offers up to 15 minutes of valuable preliminary advice on a range of legal issues facing social enterprises.
