In the run-up to our latest campaign – Buy Social for a Better World – in October, we’re profiling some of our fantastic members and the amazing impact they make. Here we’re looking at The Soap Co. who make great skincare products, while providing opportunities for people with disabilities or and the otherwise disadvantaged.

Keep an eye out for more profiles throughout the summer.

Based in East London, and with a traditional workshop in the Lake District, The Soap Co. creates bath and beauty products with sophisticated fragrances, minimalist design and a strong social and environmental ethos.

The Soap Co. are a social enterprise providing training and work opportunities for people who are visually impaired, have disabilities or are otherwise disadvantaged. 100% of their profits go back into the business so they can provide these opportunities and more like them. They also seek to minimise their environmental impact, using natural ingredients, recycled plastic and compostable labels.

“Working at The Soap Co. has given me my independence. I can make money to support my family, Without this job, life would so much harder for me. ”

Ozzie Ibrahim, employee for 22 years (formerly with Soap Co.’s parent company, Clarity)

The Soap Co. display the “Buy Social” badge on all their products. This proves they’re a certified social enterprise and gives consumers the confidence that their purchase goes towards bringing about a better world through genuine social or environmental impact.

“The Buy Social logo has been instrumental in making sure that the end customers knows why our products are truly different. We’ve made a conscious decision of putting the logo on all our products as we can see that it’s making a difference in selling to consumers who can and want to make a positive social and environmental impact.”

Camilla Marcus-Dew, Co-founder, The Soap Co.

In October we’re running an exciting campaign to encourage consumers to buy from social enterprises, by celebrating what they do and the positive difference they make: Buy Social for a Better World. A central part of this is making sure the “Buy Social” badge is both widely recognised and used by as many social enterprises as possible.
