Today is Social Enterprise Day and we are pleased to announce the winners from our national photography competition. Run across England, the competition aimed to find the best photographs to show how social enterprise is transforming lives.

Whether that be through working for or volunteering at a social enterprise, or simply benefitting from one - entrants took a photograph to capture how social enterprises are changing the world one community at a time - we wanted to hear from the people who experience it every day.

England's Social Enterprise Ambassadors chose a national winner and runner-up from the winners of regional heats across England. The final nine winning photographs appear in the slideshow below.

Winner and runner up photographs are to be published in a special feature in The Big Issue magazine with potential for further promotion, photographs will also be exhibited at Voice09 in Birmingham, the landmark event for social enterprise. The winner will also receive two tickets to attend the event. Photographs will be exhibited at the Contemporary Urban Centre gallery in London and the winning social enterprise will receive a new digital camera.

Regional networks that partook in the competition include RISE in the South West, Social Enterprise London, SE2 Partnership in the South East, Social Enterprise East Midlands, Social Enterprise West Midlands and Social Enterprise East of England.
