Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Social Enterprises
The Social
Enterprise Coalition is delighted to host BAME Women Making a Difference through Business, a free all-day event on 21 October in London, designed to inspire,
empower and inform the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) women about the
business of social enterprise.
A research project
carried out by Social Enterprise London has found that BAME women play a significant
role in their local communities but there was significant under representation
of BAME women within networks and start-up social enterprises.
Barriers highlighted by the project included:
- a low awareness of social enterprise among BAME women,
- family obligations and limits on time,
- lack of knowledge of finance and business development,
- low confidence,
- cultural stereotyping inside and outside of their communities
This event,
focusing on BAME women will examine these specific issues, showcase the people
behind successful social enterprises, and provide opportunities for discussion
and networking.
