Sue Perkins presents UK social enterprise awards – winners announced
Last night Social Enterprise UK hosted the 15th Social Enterprise Awards at LSO St Luke’s in London, sponsored by The Independent on Sunday.

Host, comedienne and television presenter, Sue Perkins entertained guests and presented the winners with bespoke trophies made by the social enterprise, Impact Arts. Social Enterprise UK worked with a number of social enterprises in its supply chain to organise the event, including The Brigade Bar & Bistro, which catered for the 250 guests.
The UK now has more than 70,000 social enterprises. They are businesses with a social mission, contributing more than £24 billion to the UK economy each year.
Peter Holbrook, Social Enterprise UK Chief Executive, said: “The award winners fought off fierce competition and wholly deserve to be recognised on a national stage for their contribution to society. Making a positive difference while making a profit isn't easy, this is why social enterprises - businesses that give back – are so extraordinary.”

Link Group - Overall Social Enterprise of the Year (Sponsored by RBS)
Formed in 1962, Link Group provides new and improved homes for rent and sale, community regeneration services, and support and care for individuals. It provides services to over 10,000 people in 26 Scottish Local Authority areas.
PS Services - One to Watch (Sponsored by BP)
PS Services, run by Gofal Enterprises, is a commercial Cleaning & Grounds Maintenance social enterprise operating within Cardiff and surrounding area of South Wales. PS Services have created 22 jobs since it started in October 2011, employing vulnerable people and those with experience of poor wellbeing or mental ill health.
Local Care Direct – Innovation (Sponsored by Landmarc)
Formed in 2004, Local Care Direct provides urgent and primary health care, dental services and telehealth for patients and GP practices. It is the care provider for more than 2 million people in West Yorkshire, generating an annual income of £20million and providing employment for 400 people and an additional 300 self-employed clinical workers. Local Care Direct - in partnership with technology provider Alere, are demonstrating clear benefits for patients and potential benefits for new ways of delivering healthcare services on a national scale.

Big Issue Invest is the social investment arm of The Big Issue. It has won the Social Investment Deal award for its partnership with Unity Trust Bank, which enabled the social enterprise, Sandwell Community Caring Trust, to buy a high-quality 62 bed residential care home for elderly people with dementia.

Provide is an independent social enterprise with a social mission to deliver quality healthcare. It employs 1,100 staff and provides over 50 community health services to children, families and adults, from a variety of community settings In Essex and the East of England.

Co-wheels Car Club CIC - Environmental Social Enterprise (Sponsor SITA)
Co-wheels is a leading national car club operator that enables its members to access cars on a ‘pay by the hour’ basis thus encouraging people to think more about their journey, only taking the car when it’s the best option, helping to cut car use and tackle climate change. Nigel Kershaw OBE has been at The Big Issue for almost two decades.
