Sock Mob events joint overall winners of the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism awards

A social enterprise which arranges tours of different parts of London led by homeless tour guides has been declared the joint overall winner of Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards.

Sock Mob Events offer alternative walking tours with professionally coached homeless guides, offering an historical but also unexplored glimpses of the city, as perceived through the lens of homelessness.

The Responsible Tourism Awards were founded in 2004 to celebrate and inspire change in the tourism industry. The Awards rest on a simple principle – that all types of tourism, from niche to mainstream, can and should be organised in a way that preserves, respects and benefits destinations and local people.

The judges chose to select two joint overall winners to recognise both long term excellence, and bold innovative new ideas.  Sock Mob Events, who are members of Social Enterprise UK, were judged to offer a glimpse of new perspectives on responsible tourism for the future.
