Over £9 million has been awarded in the first window the Social Action Fund, managed by The Social Investment Business.

Sixteen game-changing social action projects in England have had grants ranging from £100,000 to £2 million from the Social Action Fund to provide teaching support, increase citizenship awareness, improve green spaces in cities, and provide services to homeless people, disadvantaged young people and local communities.

The Social Action Fund is managed by The Social Investment Business on behalf of the Cabinet Office.

Organisations with ambitious proposals to create opportunities for volunteers by supporting models to expand giving of time or money are invited to apply to the second window of the Fund. Applications close at noon on Friday 3 February 2012.

The Social Investment Business’ Chief Executive, Jonathan Jenkins said:

"The energy and vision of applicants has been impressive and we are pleased to manage a Fund that finances ambitious, life-changing social action projects which will really make a difference and bring people together to improve the quality of life in their communities.”

Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd said:

“The Social Action Fund exists to scale up projects that have proven their ability to inspire people and get them involved. These matched investments will create opportunities for many more people to make a difference to the things they care about.”
