Circus Starr, a not for profit community interest company (CIC), is an all human touring circus. We currently perform in 75 towns across the UK each year.

We aim to make a lasting impact through engaging with local businesses and generating income via sponsorships and donations. This enables us to run our unique Donated Ticket Scheme, whereby tickets are given completely free of charge to children’s charities and community groups enabling underprivileged children and children with disabilities to enjoy a memorable day at the circus.

Circus Starr has already given over 1 million children this opportunity through our Donated Ticket Scheme and with the committed help from local interest groups, authorities, media and businesses throughout the UK, we continue to raise this figure. In 2011 Circus Starr donated £1,345,000 worth of tickets to UK communities.

Any surplus we make from the shows is donated to our local charity partners.

  • Community Enterprise
We deliver business support to social enterprises, charities and community groups and our mission is to help people gain the capacity and confidence to improve their community through enterprise. We charge for large pieces of work, such as Business Plans, Market Research and Feasibility Studies, and all of the profit we generate is used to subsidise free support and in depth capacity building work to support culture change. This allows us to build long term supportive relationships with our clients. We also operate a specialist creative marketing company and have built an expertise in social media. Last year we launched Run Native, a UK wide e-commerce site for social enterprises and we are working strategically to change public buying patterns towards social enterprise vendors.

  • Corkscrew Ltd
Can social entrepreneurs be created? At Corkscrew we believe they can and have launched our Entrepreneur Generators to ignite that entrepreneurial spark. Our programs blend real time business project work (from marketing analysis to website design) set by 3rd party organisations (social enterprises/NGOs/Charities) with fundamental workshops/sessions on launching a successful creative business. This mix allows our participants to develop confidence in their own professional abilities and to introduce them to the world of business creation – with a social conscience of course.

Our Entrepreneur Generators are run from co-work spaces allowing access to inspiring mentors and an environment suited to develop entrepreneurial spirit. Corkscrew also choose to accept real time projects for our Entrepreneur Generators from Social Enterprises and other mission driven organisations as we feel the availability of extra resources will ultimately benefit development & growth for those with limited access to financial support.

Goodwork. It is a new ethical communication company. What does that mean? It’s quite simple really; we plan to use our communications skills to make the world a better place. It is a social enterprise, investing a large portion of its income in promoting the good causes it supports. Our team has a great deal of experience of journalism, marketing, filmmaking and creative communications. We work with small and large charities, non governmental organisations and companies to improve their communications. We match companies with corporate and social responsibility budgets, with charities and good causes that need help. The good causes get the funding they need and the companies that fund them get the recognition that that support deserves. We believe that people like doing business with companies that do good things.

  • Gravitas Outcome Services CIC
We work with organisations providing community interventions to help them operate in an outcome focused way. We provide CORS which is a cloud-based system that monitors community interventions together with on-going consultancy support. CORS records who uses your service, everything you do for them, and automatically reports and analyses for funding bodies, authorities, and supporters, allowing you to focus on providing your service. Having extensive experience of Social care settings, the developers were keen to keep recording processes to a minimum. CORS is particularly beneficial to small scale community groups that do not have the staff resources to manage complex business information systems. These groups will however be concerned about the requirements of ‘Outcome Focused Interventions’ and ‘Personal Budgets’. CORS can track and measure changes in Mental Health, Child and Family Support, Special Needs / Learning Difficulties, Substance Misuse, Education / Training / Employment, Offender Rehabilitation and Home-Care Re-enablement services.

  • Ministry of Stories
The Ministry of Stories is a creative writing and mentoring centre for young people in east London. It inspires 8-18 year olds through the power of storytelling, unleashing their imaginations, building their confidence and self-respect and enhancing their ability to communicate. It all begins when visitors arrive and pass through Hoxton Street Monster Supplies, purveyors of household and fancy goods to every imaginable monster. Stop and shop for fang floss and tinned fear or continue through the secret door to the Ministry. The Ministry of Stories was founded in 2010 by author Nick Hornby, Lucy Macnab and Ben Payne and has since hosted thousands of children in workshops facilitated by volunteers including writers, teachers, local people and artists.

  • Multicultural Wellbeing and Healing CIC
The techniques used by MWAH are to encourage openness, self education and handling as well as touch. The projects which MWAH run promote the idea that wellness is a decision you make to achieve your highest potential for well-being, regardless of age, gender, social class, ability, life situation etc. 'Wellness is the integration of body, mind and spirit - the appreciation that everything you do, think, feel and believe has an impact on your state of health’.
MWAH have achieved this through a popular education approach using relaxation, stress management, assertiveness and aspirations workshops to young mothers.
The beauty of the popular education approach means that rather than having a 'expert-client' situation, workshop participants can take what they learn and pass it on to those close to them, therefore achieving wider community education. The workshops are available on a number of different issues and in many settings.

  • Public Engagement Foundation
PEF’s mission is to bring the arts’ transformative potential into people’s daily lives. Its first major programme of action focuses on bringing the arts into the mainstream of health and social care services.

    Two programmes are under way:

First, creating a pipeline of social enterprises: arts contributions to health capable of saving money for the NHS. The first three are: with East London Dance (to help older people to achieve improved balance, mobility and wellbeing, and reduce hospital admissions); creative writers producing ‘patient diaries’ in intensive care units (with Whiston Hospital, Mersey Care NHS Trust and the Arvon Foundation); an arts on prescription service called Art Lift.

Second, developing the evidence base. The first project adds the health economics dimension - a collaboration with the LSE and funded by DCMS. PEF has also been awarded three years’ funding for a new UK Network for Arts & Health Research.

  • Return to Earn
Return to Earn recycles clothing for businesses and members of the public, either paying them or donating the value of the clothes to charity. We work hard to prevent any unwanted clothing going to landfill, and run the UK’s only zero-waste textiles site. Our collection system is carbon-neutral and we can collect unwanted clothing from anywhere in the UK – we ensure it is worn again if possible, and recycled responsibly if at the end of its useful life. We work with other charities, businesses and local not-for-profit companies to process large quantities of unwanted clothing, and to extend the lifecycle of the UK’s textiles. Call us on 0843 2896 180 or visit www.returntoearn.co.uk for more information.

  • Significant Seams CIC
Significant Seams draws on both the scientific and social characteristics of sewing to build community and support the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
Significant Seams fosters support, new perspectives, and practical skills, all which nurture self-confidence and community, through textile crafts and traditions.
We are headquartered in Walthamstow, East London at 131 Wood Street, an inclusive community centre with a showroom for our patchwork and quilting supply shop. All proceeds of our activities subsidise our range of community building and therapeutic programmes and activities.
We maintain a membership based Stitch & Craft Library and deliver gently theraputic workshop programmes (e.g. Waiting for Baby, Sew and Tell ESL & Upcycling).
Sewing has a rich heritage of fellowship and social support.
Sewing also has been proven to be medically beneficial to survivors of trauma and those experiencing anxiety and depressive disorders. We find it also mediates potentially uncomfortable initial interactions and facilitates personal conversations.

  • SoFair Social Enterprise
SoFair is a social enterprise at Southampton Solent University. Currently, SoFair is working on the sales of handmade and organic cotton conference bags. It plans to help fair-trade organisations in poorer parts of the world by using graduates to develop marketing plans and sales activities.

Our current project assists a small textile workshop run by women in a Tsunami devastated village Southern India who produce fair-trade organic pure cotton reusable bags, but there is ambition to spread the scope of our activities further. The long-term plan is to reach a point where interns and volunteers can maintain a self-funding social enterprise where students can learn the techniques, joys and pitfalls of managing a small firm before starting their own businesses.

The dream for the future is that one day SoFair could offer scholarships at Southampton Solent University to some of the children who will have been supported through the project.

  • South London YMCA
South London YMCA’s principal activity is providing housing and support to homeless people in South London. We operate in the boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth and Southwark and support a variety of service users who are amongst the most vulnerable and disengaged in the community. This includes, in large hostels with young people and those with complex needs and in smaller, specialist services, housing people with substance addictions, mental health needs and teenage parents. In addition to their support needs, we work with them to become more independent, move forward in their lives, hopefully out of supported accommodation and to contribute and play a greater role in society. We are presently looking to branch out into Social Enterprise, to further improve the communities we work within and supplement our income to continue our work.

  • St Mungo’s - ReVive
St Mungo's established ReVive in 2009 to give homeless people the chance to train and work on live painting and decorating contracts in a work based environment.

ReVive participants gain vocational and personal skills and can access support in their personal development. The aim is to provide a clear path into work and to help to achieve sustained independence.

During Year 1 ReVive completed 9 contracts: clients learnt how to work in a team and produce high quality work to deadline. ReVive believes people can recover from homelessness and are capable of achieving their goals.

ReVive supported 6 of those 9 clients into sustainable employment and helped others move onto further training. This is a great achievement for clients who have not worked for over 5 years.

Initial contracts have been on St Mungo's properties, ReVive is moving towards negotiating for external contracts with partner housing associations and 3rd sector organisations.
