Social enterprise leadership development
We run a range of social enterprise leadership development programmes for emerging leaders and existing leaders of organisations - including for those working in local authorities and charities who want to move to a social enterprise model.
The programmes are designed to build on existing leadership strengths and develop leadership capability, as well as increase the sustainability and capacity of your organisation.
Training is delivered by highly experienced leadership development experts who run their own social enterprises. The leadership programmes are based on four key themes:
- Leading an exceptional social enterprise
- Managing a profitable social enterprise
- Marketing your social enterprise
- Sustaining your social enterprise
Depending upon a person’s needs, the training and development programmes take many different formats, from residentials through to one day courses and workshops. Accompanying resources are provided as part of the programmes, including leadership and management tools and templates, coaching and assessments.

Social franchising
We run a social franchising programme for social enterprises. Find out what social franchising is, the different forms of replication on offer to help social enterprises diversify their income streams and grow their business.
As part of the social franchising programme accompanying resources are provided to help social enterprises decide which route is right, how to proceed, where to access business advice, find out what opportunities are available, and to join a network where individuals can share their experiences and gain peer-to-peer support.
The social franchising programme is delivered in partnership with our members CAN and the School of Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), using a number of different approaches including action learning, practical workshops, business mentoring, and one-to-one consultancy support.

Social enterprise strategy development for Local Authorities
We provide strategic advice to Local Authorities (LAs) wanting for social enterprises to play a bigger role in their communities. Staff within LAs are under increasing pressure to find effective providers of services that involve and benefit their communities as well as add social value, and as a result are keen to commission and procure more from social enterprises.
The majority of social enterprises reinvest in their local communities (82%, according to the State of Social Enterprise survey 2011) and are committed to improving the lives of local people and their surrounding environment. They also help:
- Create sustainable cohesive communities
- Contribute to economic development
- Deliver learning and skills, including literacy
- Improve people’s health and wellbeing
- Regenerate local areas

Public affairs consultancy
We have extensive public affairs experience and were shortlisted for the PAN Public Affairs Awards In-House Team of the Year in 2010.
Recent successes include a campaign to support Chris White MP’s Private Member’s Bill through parliament. The Bill has not only achieved the rare feat of passing through to the Committee Stages of discussion, but it has also gained public support from the Government.
We were also instrumental in ensuring social enterprise was strongly represented in all major parties manifestos at the last general election.
Our in-house public affairs team can offer advice and support to organisations looking to influence issues critical to them. Specifically, we can consult on influencing strategies, on identifying and mapping key stakeholders, and on hosting events and roundtables.
